Racecourse is streaking ahead

A WERRIBEE Racecourse upgrade has been moving ahead at a cracking pace.
Construction company AKRON won the tender last month to build the new track.
Racing Victoria capital works manager Hamish Scott said the old turf was already stripped and earthworks had started to correct the camber.
“Retaining walls are in place and the new drainage system is about to be installed,” he said.
It is believed the club would use recycled water, making the ground drought proof.
A $4 million track overhaul was required before racing could resume.
The International Horse centre works have been expected to start in December.
There will be three stabling compounds to house the overseas horses competing in the Spring Racing Carnival and other events. The centre will be completed by August 2010 with the Werribee Cup expected to run in December 2010.
