Land sale concern

A REAL estate agent has reassured families that the sale of vacant land neighbouring MacKillop College in Werribee will not lead to an increase in traffic congestion.
WestWood Real Estate agent John Hennessy said the developers would not allow vehicles down the side driveway leading to the school.
“We are talking about a very small development and we are not talking about a huge amount of traffic,” Mr Hennessy said.
“It will be only a few cars and they certainly won’t be moving out all at the one time.
“The school entry and exit won’t be affected,” he said.
Parents had been concerned about their children’s safety as the street could have been turned into a bottleneck.
The 1.39ha block is owned by the Roman Catholic Trust on behalf of St Andrews Parish.
It is believed to be worth millions of dollars.
“We are in the final negotiations with one party and there may be a few others,” Mr Hennessy said.
“Nothing has been signed yet.”
He said the ideal outcome would be for the school to buy the land.
“It does not fit with their expenditure budget at this point in time,” he said.
“If the sale was held off for a few years, possibly that might come together.
The land went on sale mid last year.
Wyndham Heritage Recovery’s John Brodel said the gates on the block were protected under the council’s heritage overlay.
MacKillop College would not comment on the sale.
