SWASHBUCKLING tales will not just be in action on the high seas as pirates set sail for Werribee.
A pantomime play called the “The Trouble with Pirates” is being held as part of the Weerama festivities.
Writer Paul Rourke said the story followed a group of pirates who were marooned on an island and found buried treasure.
“It was a spur of the moment idea and it draws on every bit of comedy,” he said.
“I love watching pirate movies.”
It’s one of 10 plays he has penned over the past six years at Riff Raff Theatre Productions.
“My first play was about what happens when the grim reaper turns up on your doorstep and you’re not quite ready to go,” Paul said.
“We did a play last year about a sleepwalking burglar who burgles his own house and ends up getting caught by police.”
The play will be performed by six local actors on March 13 from 12.30pm to 2pm.
The Weerama Festival is being staged for the first time at the Werribee Racecourse despite the track undergoing major reconstruction.
