THE wheels are in motion at St James The Apostle Primary School.
PE teacher Joe Grimes said the students were active in the Ride2School program all year round and have even set up travel passports to keep tabs on kilometres travelled.
The school will again celebrate National Ride2School Day on 17 March.
More than 100,000 Australian children are gearing up for the annual event which will feature healthy breakfasts, all-day cycling festivals, school parades and bike excursions.
Ride2School events manager Mary Akiki said the schools registered had reported nearly half of their students were riding, walking or using a scooter.
“By actively getting to and from school student’s daily physical activity increases significantly, which benefits their overall health and helps reduce the risk of obesity and associated health problems,” Ms Akiki said.
It is free for schools to sign up at www.ride2school.com.au.
