A FASHION loving Hoppers Crossing resident is in the running to win a once in a lifetime experience that could also launch his career.
Luca Lauretta has been shortlisted as a semifinalist in the Electrolux Fashion Apprentice competition, giving him a chance to win a six month paid apprenticeship with Alex Perry.
Mr Lauretta, who has wanted to break into the world of designing his whole life, said it would be a dream to win the competition.
“I think learning from any fashion designer, and especially Alex Perry, could be such a boost to anyone’s career,” Mr Lauretta said.
“An opportunity like this only comes along once in a lifetime and it could be such a good launching pad.”
Mr Lauretta said he felt there was a lot he could learn from Perry.
“I think he would be great at being able to teach me how to be a smart thinking designer,” he said.
“Hopefully he could teach me to be someone who knows what the customer wants.”
And while he might not know exactly what the customer wants yet, Mr Lauretta said he definitely knew what he wanted to get out of the fashion industry.
“I don’t care who wears my clothes, whether it’s a single mum, a married mum or a movie star, I want the person who wears my designs to feel like a celebrity,” he said.
“I get such a thrill out of fashion and I just want whoever wears my clothes to feel special.”
Finalists for the competition are chosen on 10 October and the winner will be announced on 7 November.
