Synthetic turf for sports ground

POINT Cook will be the home of a ground breaking investment that will be a “win-win” for the community.
Last week the Council awarded a $2.4 million contract to TEAM Sports for the construction of a synthetic turf oval at Point Cook Reserve.
The oval, a full size synthetic football/cricket field that will be built to AFL and Cricket Australia performance standards, will be the first of its kind in Australia.
Wyndham’s deputy mayor Bob Fairclough said it was great that the project was going to Point Cook.
“This is really exciting, this is going to form one of the key ovals for the Point Cook Reserve, and it’s very much needed to cater for the Cricket and Aussie Rules sports in the Point Cook area,” Cr Fairclough said.
“The population in that area is going to increase from about 18,000 as it is now, to a final figure of 54,000.”
It is expected that the project will commence by 27 December, just 14 days after the contract was awarded, and it will be completed by 31 May next year.
Cr Shane Bourke said the project would be an important water conserver.
“It is really important, even though we think the drought has finished, I think a lot of people will think it’s over and done with, but in this type of country we just don’t know,” he said.
“It’s great being out there in Point Cook and I’m sure this will be the first of many that go across our community.”
