HOPPERS Crossing junior footballer Brayden Razlog is the talk of the Western Region Football League after polling a record-breaking number of votes in the under-13A best-and-fairest count.
The teenager swept the competition to poll a remarkable 38 votes from 15 games, eclipsing the previous best record count in the under-13 competition by 14 votes.
The youngster said winning the medal came as a great surprise.
“I knew I had dominated in the goalkicking this season, but I definitely didn’t expect to win the league best-and-fairest,” Razlog said.
“This year I played pretty much everywhere … ruck, rover, half-back and also in the forward line. I thought the players around me were having good years, too, and thought Nic Poland, Mitchell Grubb and Brayden Kitchen would all poll well so I was over the moon when I found out I made the top five.”
Razlog also won the inaugural inter-league best player medal.
WRFL inter-league coach Tony Wright said Razlog was a promising footballing talent who had dominated the league’s fixtures against both the Essendon District and Riddell District Football Leagues.
“He is a tall and athletic key position player that had a huge impact at centre-half forward for the side,” Wright said.
“He took big contested marks all day and kicked eight goals in the two games, and presented well and won the ball in front and was fantastic at ground level with great foot skills.”
Having fallen short of winning a premiership with the Warriors this season, Razlog said his major goal for next year was to have a premiership medal around his neck.
Razlog’s 38 votes eclipsed Brandon Davies’ record of 24 votes, which until this season had been the highest number of votes polled by a junior in the Western Region Football League’s under-13 competition.
