The Tarneit Family Medical and Dental Centre opened its doors to the public yesterday and promised to provide for the needs of the area’s growing population.
Dr Mohammed Al Kamil arrived in Australia nine years ago from Iraq.
Along with his wife Dr Inas Abdul Karim, two other doctors from Iraq and Sudan, and Dr Kelly Davis from Australia, the centre is as diverse as the area it will be serving.
Dr Al Kamil said as Tarneit grew it would need more doctors.
“This is a new area that is growing and it will need a lot of doctors,” Dr Al Kamil said.
“It will need these kinds of services.”
The new doc on the block said the centre would also be tailored to the needs of its female patients.
“Female Muslims often prefer a female doctor, and in fact we noted that most western females want a female GP,” he said.
“There will always be a female doctor on every day.”
Dr Al Kamil, who has been practicing medicine for 17 years, said he was enjoying his new life in Australia and was excited about the move to Wyndham.
“It’s definitely a better country for my kids to grow up in. This is the land of opportunity,” he said.
“We’ve had some difficulty building the service in Tarneit like dealing with the internet and phone systems, it’s been a bit hard to develop the high grade end of care facility that we want.
“We have high expectations so we want to meet them.”
The centre is located on 937 Sayers Rd in Tarneit.
