Classics ready to shine

By Xavier Smerdon
REV heads and classic collectors alike will descend on Hoppers Crossing for the annual Show ‘N’ Shine this month.
John Agosta, president of the Werribee and District Collectable Vehicle Club said he expected around 15,000 people to attend the show, now entering into its 20th year.
“It’s really just grown from a very small event held out at the B-24 liberator with 50 cars, to now having over 300 cars,” Mr Agosta said.
Mr Agosta, who has loved cars his whole life and owns J W Auto Gas in Werribee, said his obsession with cars came from the enjoyment they bring.
“It’s really just about the enjoyment of taking them out for a drive with good mates,” he said.
Mr Agosta said the continued success of the Show ‘N’ Shine was due to the array of cars on display every year.
“One of the best things about it is that we get early model classics right through to hot rods and modern cars,” he said.
“It’s open to anybody who wants to display their vehicle.”
And while some collectors might name their cars, John insists the only thing he calls his 1963 EH Holden is a bad name if it stops working.
The Show ‘N’ Shine will be held at Mossfield Reserve in Hoppers Crossing on 27 February.
General admission is $2 and children under 16 are free.
