Triple tragedy

By Xavier Smerdon
Aleshia Syme was one of three people killed when the car in which they were travelling spun out of control and wrapped around a pole.
Aleshia, 16, and Jamil Zakarie, 17, were thrown about 40 metres from the Commodore station wagon and died at the scene while Hamish Roddick, 22, was flown to The Alfred hospital but died later from his injuries.
Sixteen-year-old Carly Lloyd was the sole survivor of the crash at the intersection of Bulban Rd and Thoroughbred Ave and was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
A Facebook page that was set up in tribute to Aleshia was inundated with heartfelt messages and friends and family asking why.
More than 1700 people had joined the tribute page as of yesterday.
Sister-in-law Jacinta Veal-Syme expressed her sadness.
“Every time I see this group, I don’t believe it,” Ms Veal-Syme said.
“It hasn’t sunk it yet that my new sis isn’t walking among us any more, but I know she’s always close to me, there’s a massive place in my heart for you.”
Acting Sergeant Craig Stanton from the Werribee Police Station said the Major Collision Investigation Unit was still investigating the cause of the crash.
