WERRIBEE residents continue to be plagued by one of the worst performing train lines in Melbourne, according to the latest statistics released by the Department of Transport.
The statistics, which summarise Metro Train’s performance over January this year, show that despite improving in comparison to the same time last year, Werribee is still under-performing.
The punctuality of trains in Werribee increased by six per cent meaning that 85.7 per cent of services were on time within five minutes.
The 12 month average however was 80.1 per cent, making Werribee the third worst in terms of punctuality behind Pakenham and Frankston.
Almost two per cent of services were cancelled on the Werribee line. Only Stony Point faired worse with 2.8 per cent cancelled.
Metro spokesperson Chris Whitefield told Star a new timetable to be introduced in May should solve many of the problems.
“Although we have experienced some challenging recent months, we look to the new timetable in May to help further improve the performance of the Werribee line,” Mr Whitefield said.
“The Werribee line is one of the key beneficiaries from Sunday 8 May with 37 services added each weekday, including 10 during busy peak times.
“These changes aim to minimise disruption to our customers, while at the same time ensure we can achieve more consistent reliability of our services.”
Mr Whitefield said the full details of the timetable changes would be released by the end of March at www.metrotrains.com.au.
