WERRIBEE’S proudest punk rockers have beaten 10,000 other bands in Australia to be listed in the top 10 of a potentially career-making competition.
Our Best Laid Plans was one of only two bands from Victoria chosen as finalists in Nova FM’s I’m With the Band competition.
Lead singer Tim Shaw said the band was humbled to be in the running for the $10,000 top prize.
“I guess there was a lot of panic and excitement at the same time,” Mr Shaw said.
“It’s kind of like dropping a team of 5 mice into a maze with the cheese at the centre… we can all smell it, we know it’s there, we just don’t know how close we actually are to it until we see it.”
Last year’s winners The Touch received significant air time for their album 1.1, embarked on a national tour and even performed at this year’s Big Day Out festival.
Our Best Laid Plans has been creating pop, punk and rock music since 2008, and last year they were chosen to promote Triple M’s new MP3 player.
Mr Shaw said the band was ready to represent Werribee and were happy to be known as “that band from Wyndham that made it”.
“The ultimate goal for OBLP, would be to never lose sight of where we came from,” he said.
“No matter how successful we become, or whatever happens, it’s always important to remember what got you there in the first place.”
