Paws for effect

By Xavier Smerdon
WYNDHAM has more than 18,000 registered dogs and odds are most of them will be at President’s Park in Werribee later this month.
As part of the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk, Wyndham’s Betsy Chamberlain is encouraging residents to hit the pavement and join in the fun on 15 May.
Ms Chamberlain, the regional co-ordinator of this year’s event also runs Lonely Pets Club, Western Melbourne.
The mobile holiday pet care service ensures that Ms Chamberlain is constantly surrounded by man’s, and woman’s, best friend.
“I absolutely love animals,” Ms Chambarlain said.
“For me unconditional love is the number one thing.
“I’m just lucky that I’ve been able to make it my living.”
Ms Chamberlain, who adopted two of her three dogs from a shelter, said other potential pet owners should consider doing the same.
“I would highly recommend it,” she said.
“The satisfaction you get from saving them is just the best, and I swear that they know you’ve given them a second chance.”
The Million Paws walk will raise vital funds to support the RSPCA through donations and the sale of merchandise on the day.
Participants will walk around the lake at President’s Park and celebrate the joy of having a dog as a member of the family.
Anyone that would like to get involved in the event can call Betsy on 0417 274 434 or email BetsyC@LonelyPetsClub.com.au.
