Program helps problem teens

A PROGRAM designed to deter youth from risk-taking behaviour and crime has helped more than 40 teenagers and young adults from Hoppers Crossing, Werribee and Laverton since last year.
The Crime, Choices and Consequences (CCCP) program, which includes the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth initiative (PARTY), is run by The Youth Junction Inc, Alfred and Royal Melbourne Hospitals, Victoria Police and Victorian Magistrate’s Court.
Almost 130 young people have been referred to the CCCP project by judges from the Sunshine and Werribee Magistrates’ Court.
Hoppers Crossing topped the list of suburbs where the young people, who took part in the program, live.
Out of the more than 30 suburbs across the north and west where the CCCP participants came from, Laverton, Sunshine, Werribee, Melton, Deer Park, St Albans, Sydenham and Wyndham Vale were the other top intake areas.
Out of the 2010-2011 CCCP attendees, 87 per cent were male and 13 were female, with the majority aged 19 to 20.
