WERRIBEE has defeated Geelong West in the Geelong and District Football League in one of its best performances for the season.
The Centrals kicked with the aid of a strong breeze in the first quarter and opened up a six-goal lead. Luke Cachia, making his senior debut, kicked two first-quarter goals while Brendan Chugg and Toby Bray gave the Centrals forwards excellent service out of the midfield.
Then, kicking into the breeze in the second quarter, Werribee scored another six goals to set up a match-winning 80-point lead by half-time.
The Cheetahs failed to kick a goal in the first half thanks to some excellent defensive work from the Werribee backline.
The margin only got bigger in the second half, as Centrals further dominated their opponents and raced to a 116-point win.
Luke Cachia and Craig Rosenzweig were stand-outs on the Centrals forward line, kicking five and four goals respectively.
Bray continued his good form from the first quarter and was named best on ground.
The final score was Werribee 21.19 (145) to Geelong West 4.5 (29).
The day got even better for Werribee when it also won the reserves match.
Needing a win to keep alive any chance of making the finals, Centrals came from behind to get the points.
The final score was Werribee 14.10 (94) to Geelong West 6.11 (47).
It now sits in seventh position on the ladder with six wins and six losses for the season and must post back-to-back wins next week when it takes on Anakie.
