NOISY builders, barking dogs and rowdy neighbours are proving to be the bane of many Wyndham resident’s existence, with more than 300 complaints for noise pollution lodged in the last 12 months.
According to Wyndham City Council statistics, over the last year they have received 307 complaints for noise pollution, while the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also received a further four complaints from the Wyndham area.
According to the EPA,noise pollution can be defined as anything that could be an “unwanted sound”.
A spokesperson for Wyndham Council said resident’s had a range of noisy nuisances that they can complain about.
“It can be really anything from barking dogs, noise from building sites too early in the morning or parties late at night,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said before the Council would take any action on a noise complaint, the person issuing it would have to assure that they have tried to resolve the issue themselves first.
“We actually won’t go and investigate until we know that they’ve tried to resolve the situation themselves,” the spokesperson said.
“We then give them a noise diary and they then give that back to Council and it then gives our officers the appropriate times where they can then go and investigate if there’s a pattern.”
With so many houses being built all over Wyndham, the council’s CEO Kerry Thompson said many of the complaints are regarding noisy builders.
“Quite often it’s when it is outside the local law hours, so if they’ve started at outrageous hours in the morning or going into the evening,” Ms Thompson said.
