A WERRIBEE high school and one of the municipality’s most famous events joined forces over the weekend to raise much needed funds.
Year 11 students from Galvin Park Secondary College had the night of their young lives at the Fashion Awards Australia Debutante Ball.
Their parents and teachers had tears in their eyes as the kids made their first foray into high society and danced elegantly around the room.
The ball is an annual event for both the school and the fashion awards, with half the money raised going to Galvin Park, and half going to the awards.
Star attended the event as a major sponsor of Fashion Awards Australia.
The boys donned matching suits with tails while the girls wore white ballroom gowns and long white gloves.
Chris Byrne and his wife acted as special guests on the night and officially received each of the students.
“The commitment the kids have given is just fantastic,” Mr Byrne said.
“There are so many other things they could be out doing, so it’s great to see them doing something like this.”
Heather Marcus, the organiser of the night and the fashion awards, said all money raised would go to the right places.
“Galvin Park always makes sure the money goes to supporting the students,” Ms Marcus said.
“The teachers tell us that they love what the children take out of it. We teach them respect, team work, tolerance and of course presentation.”
The Fashion Awards Australia will be held in September this year. For more information visit www.fashionawardsaustralia.org.
