POINT COOK is quickly becoming a sporting hub in Wyndham, according to the council and developers.
Earlier this month the council announced that Wyndham’s largest sporting precinct, Point Cook Rd Reserve, would be renamed Saltwater Reserve.
The developers of housing estate Saltwater Coast, which Saltwater Reserve will border, said Point Cook’s new sporting facilities are needed for the area’s young population.
“With almost 35 per cent of Point Cook’s population aged under 19, these new sport and recreation facilities will provide terrific facilities for our growing community,” Evian Delfabbro, FKP Executive General Manager of residential properties said.
“It’s hard to imagine that just 20 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD there are new lots surrounded by pristine wetlands and tranquil parklands that have world class sporting and recreational facilities right at their doorstep.”
When finished, Saltwater Reserve will feature three AFL football and cricket ovals, eight tennis courts and three soccer fields.
Point Cook Football Club will also make the new reserve their official home grounds when it is finished.
“Saltwater Reserve is one of Wyndham’s biggest ever sporting projects and works are in full swing with construction on the synthetic AFL and Cricket ovals underway, civil and engineering works about to begin and the tender for the construction of three sporting pavilions recently advertised,” councillor Bob Fairclough said.
“In addition to the substantial works Wyndham City is undertaking at Saltwater Reserve, we are also doing works on a number of other sporting reserves in Point Cook, including construction of two soccer pitches and a pavilion at Innisfail Reserve and construction of a pavilion at Alamanda Reserve.”
