A WERRIBEE South resident with a passion for fashion and a creative imagination is encouraging other ladies to get dressed up this Spring Carnival.
Geannie Todaro was named a finalist in Chadstone Fashion Stakes at Caulfield on 17 September and will now progress to the main event Fashion on the Fields at the Caulfield Guineas this month.
A long-time lover of the horse races and the dressing up that goes along with it, Ms Todaro has been entering fashion events at race days since 1997.
Part of her yearly ritual is to make her own hats, often from scrap materials she finds particularly interesting.
“I just love the Spring Carnival. It’s part of my relaxation that I just go into my little room and make my hat,” Ms Todaro said.
“It’s just a hobby that I really enjoy doing at it makes me feel good. I love seeing everyone dressed up and looking very elegant at the races.”
While Wyndham residents might see Geannie at the Werribee Cup on Sunday 29 January, she had a few tips for them if they are planning on getting dressed up.
“I take a healthy dose of fashion medicine, and by that I mean deportment, originality, style and elegance,” she said.
“It’s not what you wear but how you wear it and it sounds cliched, but you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look good.”
Geannie jokes that she did not even realise there were horses at the races because she is just to enthralled by the fashion.
