A DOORKNOCKING thief has been targeting homes in the Point Cook area, in a series of burglaries which have been occurring during daylight hours on weekdays.
Police said they believed the offender might be knocking on doors to check whether anyone is at home, before breaking into the residences. Some houses which have been targeted are located next door to each other.
Streets where the crimes have been carried out include Malibu Blvd, Hewett Drv, Cooinda Way, Regal Rd and Palace Rd.
Police said the offender has been entering rear yards, removing flyscreen sliding windows and using a small implement, possibly a screw driver, to break into the homes.
Items stolen have included laptops, mobile phones and jewellery, and police said they believe the offender might have been wearing gloves during some of the burglaries.
Wyndham Burglary Unit Constable Casey O’Grady said the burglaries were not necessarily all related, but have been happening since at least the start of the year, with the most recent on 19 January.
Anyone with information about the burglaries can call the Wyndham Burglary Unit on 9742 9411 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
