AN ELDERLY Werribee resident has called for the community to stand up for their safety after she was involved in a frightening incident on a bus.
Wendy Scott, who has lived in Werribee for 33 years, boarded a bus at the Werribee interchange on Friday 20 April, along with two other elderly ladies, at about 4.20pm.
Shortly after she found a seat on the bus a 13-year-old boy ran onto the bus screaming for help.
“I was waiting at the bus stop and the driver told me to get on the bus because it wasn’t safe,” Ms Scott told Star.
“All of a sudden this young kid got on and started yelling ‘don’t kill me’.”
Ms Scott said another older boy then got on the bus and attempted to attack the younger boy.
“He did not focus on anything but the other boy, and that poor kid was petrified,” she said.
“Then on the bus jumped six other kids, and they were egging him on to get the first kid.”
Ms Scott said along with the other two ladies on the bus she started pleading for the boys to get off the bus before one of the six antagonists eventually pulled the attacker away.
“The three of us old ladies did stand up for each other and then all of a sudden it was like we knew each other,” she said.
“We were quite shaken to be honest with you.”
The incident comes after several bus drivers told Star that they and their colleagues were subjected to attacks on an almost daily basis.
Ms Scott said despite the incident she would not stop catching the bus.
“I feel very unsafe but I will continue to stay there,” she said.
“We can’t cop this and I’m not going to just run and hide in a hole.”
