WERRIBEE Students are learning about a highly competitive industry from an expert in the field.
Fashion designer Craig Braybrook has been teaching senior students at Galvin Park Secondary College the ins and outs of creating clothes.
After previously appearing as a contestant on the reality show Project Runway, Mr Braybrook decided to try his hand at teaching and has been at the reins of the VET Fashion class since the start of this year.
Along with Kate Whitten, he teaches the Year 11 and 12 students how to take their designs from a piece of paper to a wearable item of clothing.
Mr Braybrook travels from Collingwood once a week to teach the class and he said he has been enjoying it so far.
“It’s good because I work on my own and you don’t have very much interaction with people otherwise,” Mr Braybrook said.
Mr Braybrook, who has been designing custom made bridal and evening wear for more than 20 years and has dressed celebrities such as Rhonda Burchmore, said it took a lot of hard work to be a successful designer.
“I was lucky that when I was still at college I started making things for my friends and they started telling other friends and on it sort of went,” he said.
“It’s not as glamorous as everyone thinks it is. It’s a lot of hard work and one per cent glamour.”
Mr Braybrook, along with some of the students at Galvin Park, will be entering the Fashion Awards Australia competition which is coming up in August and September.
