WERRIBEE Fire Brigade volunteers endured three busy days as they were called on to rescue people trapped in three different car accidents.
On Saturday 28 July the rescue squad was called out to a truck and car collision at about 9am at the Melbourne end of the Maltby Bypass near the Hoppers Crossing merging lane, where an eight-ton truck had collided with a small car.
First Lieutenant of the Werribee Fire Brigade, Darryl Wells, said his crews were on scene and administered emergency medical procedures until the arrival of paramedics.
“Unfortunately the sole occupant (the driver) of the small car was deceased,” Mr Wells said.
“After the Police had investigated the scene the Werribee Fire Brigade volunteer rescue crew were called back some two hours later to extricate the deceased driver from the vehicle.”
The next day just after 8am the unit was called to another accident on the Maltby Bypass, near Duncans Rd.
“On arrival they found a car that had collided with the armco railing protecting a solar panel then rolled several times, the female occupant was assisted from the vehicle with minor injuries,” Mr Wells said.
Just after 2pm on Monday 30th July the rescue unit was again called to a two car collision at the
corner of Hopkins Rd and Boundary Rd Truganina where a person was reported trapped after the collision.
On arrival CFA crews from Truganina and Hoppers Crossing provided medical aid to the trapped driver prior to the arrival of paramedics,” Mr Wells said.
“Werribee Fire Brigade volunteer rescue crew using hydraulic rescue equipment then removed the driver’s side of one of the vehicles to release the driver who was further treated by paramedics then placed on a stretcher and transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
Over the same time the crew attended a small fire on Wedge St in Werribee and a hoax call to the Western Highway.
