IT WAS gala night again for Wyndham’s teenagers as students from three different schools took part in their debutante ball.
Students from Werribee Secondary College, The Grange P-12 College and Hoppers Crossing Secondary College took part in the night of nights.
In total the students raised $9262 through ticket sales, with half the money going to Galvin Park and the other half going to the Fashion Awards Australia.
Fashion Awards Australia organiser, Heather Marcus, said they will use their portion to sponsor the students that will be taking part in the fashion competition.
“The kids actually took this on as a community project and they were very proud to hand over that amount of money,” Ms Marcus said.
Minister for Education Martin Dixon attended the event as an honorary guest and received all the debutants on Friday 27 July.
“Minister Dixon was excellent. The way he spoke to the students, he seemed to put them at ease,” Ms Marcus said.
“The kids responded to him very well and they thanked him personally for the $14 million he gave to Galvin Park.”
Ms Marcus said the students had shown that Wyndham has a bright future.
“Working with those students over nine weeks and to see the amount of effort they put in was just a wonderful experience,” she said.
“All of Wyndham should be proud of the children we have in this City.”
