THE former Officer in Charge of the Laverton Police Station and a police officer for almost 44 years is running for a spot on Wyndham Council.
Peter Gibbons retired as a police officer in January last year and said he now wants to put all his energy into representing Wyndham.
“I consider myself a product of Melbourne’s West, having grown up in Yarraville and served as a police officer in Laverton, Williamstown and Werribee,” Mr Gibbons said.
“My wife and I have lived in Wyndham for 38 years and brought our four children up here.
“We are proud to be part of this community and I’m looking forward to the council race and, if elected, will aim to achieve some positive results in partnership with my fellow councillors and local residents.”
Mr Gibbons said he believed his background as a police officer would help him in his role as a councillor.
If elected he said he would advocate for Neighbourhood Watch or a similar program to be introduced to Wyndham.
“I believe Iramoo Ward needs a new voice, one not tied to party politics” he said.
“I’ve been around for a while and I’m aware of the challenges and issues facing the area. My policing career taught me how to form partnerships with the community to achieve positive results.
“By being inclusive and ensuring clear two-way communication, I believe we can tackle these challenges head on.”
Wyndham residents will take to the polls in October.
