LACHLAN King has returned to Australia a world champion.
The Wyndamvale resident competed in the Under 14 Indoor Cricket World Cup in South Africa last month, where he was part of an Australian team that went through the tournament undefeated.
The good news didn’t stop there for King who was named vice captain prior to the tournament, and was able to captain Australia in one of the games.
At the end of the event, King was named in the World All Star Side, which was made up of the best players from all countries throughout the event.
Lachlan’s father Shane said it was a great experience for his son.
“The whole life experience to be able to go over and see another country was unbelievable really. It was a great opportunity for him,” Shane said.
“He had a few good games and played in eight out of the nine games, so it was all pretty good for him really.
“To be honest, they didn’t look like losing a game. They were really too good for everyone. The closest was about 20 runs which was as close as South Africa got to them in the preliminary rounds, but that was about it.”
The latest results continue what has been an outstanding few months for King who also received the Richard Fisher Award for the Best Junior Indoor Cricketer in Victoria.
“All the Victorian junior coaches rank their kids over the State Carnival,” Shane said.
“I think it is based on leadership, courage, skill and commitment and they get a score for all over those, and he was lucky enough to be the highest ranked in Victoria and won the award, which is presented every year.
“A lot of good indoor cricketers have won that, so it is a good award to win.”
With summer fast approaching, King will now turn his attention to the outdoor format of the game where he is playing for Premier Cricket Club Footscray Edgewater.
