THERE is an old rule in show business that you should never work with children or animals but the director of the St Andrew’s Theatre Company has thrown that rule out the window.
Not only will Dee Horkings be directing a musical for the first time but her cast of 96 people is made up of 42 primary school children.
The youngest actor is aged just two-years-old, but Ms Horking’s said she was confident the play, the theatre company’s interpretation of Anything Goes, would be a huge success.
“I’ve got an excellent production team that just get up and go and they do anything. They’re my backbone,” Ms Horking’s said.
“The kids are so excited and they are doing such a good job.”
For her first attempt at directing, Ms Horking’s and the theatre company have pulled out all the stops with a two-storey set that moves around the stage while cast members dance on it.
“I chose Anything Goes as the play because I performed in it back in 2000 and I remembered an amazing production full of colour and high energy,” she said.
“Anyone who knows me knows when I do something I don’t do it by halves so this show is going to be absolutely massive.”
Anything Goes will at the Moreno Performing Arts Centre at MacKillop College in Werribee from Thursday 6 December until Saturday 8 December.
