WYNDHAM’S youth are being encouraged to wear their brightest clothes and get ready to dance with a new event arriving in the municipality.

Part of the Midsumma Festival, 19 events will be held across Brimbank, Maribyrnong and Wyndham from Sunday 13 January to Sunday 3 February.

On Friday 1 February the Youth Rainbow Dance Party, Wyndham’s first ever Midsumma dance party for 12 to 17 year-olds will explode into life with the latest tunes, a DJ, canteen and prizes.

Organised in partnership with QWEST Network and FReeZa, the party will be a drug and alcohol free event with full security.

Cr Adele Hegedich said Wyndham Council was a proud supporter of the festival and encouraged residents to show their pride.

“This festival will strengthen partnerships with other local councils, including Brimbank and Maribyrnong, and with community groups, organisations and artists supporting and celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer communities,” Cr Hegedich said.

“Nineteen events will be held as part of GOWEST ranging from wellbeing workshops, story and writing workshops to film screenings, art exhibitions, bike rides, sports days and a family fun day.

“Wyndham is a city which is inclusive of all people and we have a vibrant arts and cultural scene, so we’re delighted to support this year’s festival.”

GOWEST brings together local organisations and artists supporting and representing GLBTIQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer) communities in Melbourne’s West.

The Youth Rainbow Dance Party will be held on February 1 from 7pm to 10pm at the Youth Resource Centre, 80 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing.
