Buildings at the former Glen Devon Primary School site will finally be demolished this week.
But a decision about the future of the site has not been made, despite two years passing since the school closed.
The site has become a target for squatters and on 24 November 2011 a fire tore through the building.
A spokesperson for Education Minister Martin Dixon said the former school would soon be knocked down.
“The buildings at the site will be demolished, with works beginning next week,” the spokesperson said.
“The Department [of Education] is still considering its options for the former Glen Devon Primary School site.”
Member for Tarneit, Tim Pallas, told Star it was not good enough for Wyndham residents to be expected to live with the eyesore the building had become.
“At the two-year anniversary of the closure of the Glen Devon site, Education Minister Martin Dixon’s inability to make a decision is becoming an embarrassment,” Mr Pallas said.
“In the time it took the French in the 19th century to build the Eiffel Tower, Minister Dixon has been unable to even make a decision on the future of Glen Devon.”
Mr Pallas said the building posed a known risk to the community.
“The Minister has had ample time to make this decision and by his own admission, was supplied with advice and a cost benefit analysis on the issue as far back as 2011,”
“Yet the Wyndham community has heard nothing but dithering and delay for two years, despite the concern of local residents, community groups and the Country Fire Association.”
