Legends on the lawn returns

By XAVIER SMERDON

THOUSANDS of people from across Melbourne are set to rock out to the music of their wonder years at the annual Legends on the Lawn concert.

Vanessa Amorosi, Jon Stevens, Diesel and Mental as Anything will make up this year’s line-up.

Wyndham Mayor, Heather Marcus said it was exciting to have such world-class performers in Werribee’s backyard.

“Families are encouraged to bring along a picnic rug and a basket of food and drinks, take part in the children’s activities and enjoy the afternoon,” Cr Marcus said.

“Get your friends together and re-live the wonderful music produced by these performers in the stunning surroundings of Werribee Park.

“With such an outstanding line-up, tickets will sell fast, so get yours today and make sure you don’t miss out.”

Mental as Anything are one of Australia’s most iconic bands. Founded by a group of arts students in Sydney in 1977, they are best remembered for a string of chart-topping hits and catchy pop singles including Too Many Times, Live it Up and If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too?

Born Mark Lizotte, Diesel rose to prominence in 1986 as the lead singer in Johnny Diesel and the Injectors.

Their self-titled debut album became the highest selling debut album by an Australian artist and won two ARIA awards producing singles.

Jon Stevens is most recognised for his work as the lead singer of Noiseworks, which had four Australian Top 10 albums and major hits. Stevens also fronted INXS following the death of Michael Hutchence.

Vanessa Amorosi has sold more than 1.5 million records worldwide since her 1998 debut single Have a Look.

Legends on the Lawn will be held on Sunday 17 March.
