RESIDENTS who might know someone dedicated to making Wyndham a better place are being encouraged to shine a spotlight on them.
Wyndham Council has announced that nominations for its Community Volunteer Awards, which recognise the efforts of people who have made a significant contribution to the municipality, are open.
Mayor Heather Marcus said the main award was Citizen of the Year.
“The Community Volunteer Awards and Citizen of the Year celebrate those who continue to raise the bar and excel and we encourage you to nominate people who continue to positively shape our community,” Cr Marcus said.
“Awards will be presented across a range of categories including Community Engagement, Community Health and Wellbeing, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Environment and Sustainability, Sports and Recreation and Young Volunteer of the Year.
Cr Marcus said winners in each category will receive a trophy, a $100 charity donation and go into the running to be named the Citizen of the Year, which will be decided by an independent judging panel and announced on 4 June.
“If you have a loved one or know a work colleague or a friend who makes an exceptional contribution without ever seeking any recognition or acknowledgement, please nominate them for these awards,” she said.
All nominees must be Wyndham residents and a volunteer or unpaid for the contribution for which they are being nominated.
To be eligible for Citizen of the Year, the nominee must be a permanent Australian resident or an Australian citizen. Nominees for the Young Volunteer of the Year Award must be aged between 12 and 25.
Nominations can be made online at www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/cvawards or by picking up one of the nomination forms available at the Wyndham Civic Centre, 45 Princes Highway Werribee.
