Call for major projects

A FORMER Wyndham Councillor has created a wish list of projects she feels Wyndham Council should include in its next budget.
Cynthia Manson was a councillor for 10 years before failing to be re-elected at last year’s election.
A list released to local media gave a detailed breakdown of 10 budget submission she had made to the council.
“As a Councillor for 10 years I was keen to get a number of projects up, and over the years did not have success with some, which hasn’t stopped my determination that some of these projects may be picked up in the future,” Ms Manson said.
The largest project Ms Manson said should be funded is a Werribee Central Business District Community Centre, which she estimates would cost $42 million to complete.
“The Werribee CBD does not have a council owned community centre. The current centre is owned by the local incorporated association and is substantially too small to meet the needs of a growing community and central business district location,” she said.
“Of late the centre needed to lose its occasional care centre due to inadequate size.”
Ms Manson also called for a dedicated arts centre in addition to the Wyndham Cultural Centre.
She estimated the project would cost $4 million.
“Currently Wyndham has the cultural centre, which provides a small single use facility and the Wyndham Art Workz site on Sayers Rd,” she said.
“An established and growing community such as Wyndham should be in the position to promote the arts more favourably and provide for cultural enrichment through the arts.”
Other projects included in Ms Manson’s submission included mending fences along the Werribee River South side, building a footpath on Doolan St in Werribee, and building a multi-storey car park in the Werribee CBD.
The total estimated cost of Ms Manson’s submissions was listed as just under $70 million.
