BREAKING, locking and popping might not sound like words you would associate with dancing but a new group of people are hoping to change that in Wyndham.
Formerly known as The Empire of Dance, TEDP, a dance school that only specialises in hip hop dancing, is hoping to set up shop in Wyndham.
Director of TEDP, Kilea, told Star the group would be coming to Wyndham on a temporary basis to see if there was enough demand to open a permenant studio, which would be their first in the western suburbs.
Kilea said she enjoyed urban dancing because of how it made her feel.
“I love everything about it. I love the competitions and I love interacting with the children,” Kilea said.
“There’s a lot of great talent out there and it just needs to be seen and shown.”
Kilea said she believed people who did not like traditional sports could get fit and healthy using hip hop dancing.
“It’s really important that kids are active but some of them don’t like sport so this is perfect for them,” she said.
“We’re here to give them that expression avenue.”
TEDP offer classes for children aged from 3-years-old to 18-years-old and train in four week blocks.
Kilea said TEDP would only set up their base in Wyndham if they could get enough students to take up the unique style of dance on a regular basis.
