City tackles growing pains

WYNDHAM City’s expected population growth is a growing concern for the council who are eagerly working toward upgrades and improvements in the municipality.
Last Monday an updated version of the Wyndham City Advocacy Strategy, Working for our City’s Needs, was approved at an Ordinary Council Meeting in an attempt to improve living standards for current and future residents.
Wyndham Mayor Cr Heather Marcus said with Wyndham’s residential population set to exceed 245,000 by 2021, the city’s infrastructure problems will only get worse without significant funding from both State and Federal Governments.
“Council has also achieved stronger recognition by State and Federal Governments that Wyndham’s rapid growth can’t continue without the timely provision of infrastructure and jobs,” Cr Marcus said.
Funding for key arterial road upgrades, improvements to bus services and further support for major projects including the Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre redevelopment and East Werribee Employment Precinct are some of the key priorities of the updated Advocacy Strategy.
