WERRIBEE will go a little crazy this month with performers from the Wyndham Theatre Company preparing to strap on their strait jackets.
The Wyndham Theatre Company (WTC) will be performing its interpretation of COSI, a famous Australian play that has been a favourite amongst theatre-goers for years.
Ron Fenton from the WTC said the comedy is set in a Melbourne mental institution in the early 70s.
“Against this backdrop, the residents (patients) are cajoled into performing the classic opera ‘Cosi Fan Tutti’ by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,” Mr Fenton said.
“A burnt-out venue, language barriers, a total lack of operatic talent, and the personal idiosyncrasies of the cast, all combine to create a comedy of confusion that somehow seems to work, despite the erstwhile efforts of certain individuals.”
Mr Fenton said that the comedy was so socially relevant and thought provoking that it was part of the curriculum for all Year 12 students in Victoria.
“Our cast members for ‘COSI’ come from Werribee, Williamstown, Macedon, and Point Cook, which simply displays the popularity of the production for both cast and patrons,” he said.
“WTC has written to every secondary school within Wyndham and Hobson’s Bay, so that pupils will have an opportunity to study the nuances of the script outside the classroom.”
COSI will be performed at the Corssroads Theatre, on the corner of Duncans Rd and Synnot St in Werribee on 19, 20, 26 and 27 April.
Tickets can be purchased at Gift Givers Gallery, 34 Watton Street, Werribee, or bookings can be made by calling 0401 800 196.
