THE Hoppers Crossing Football Club will be running pink in the lead up to Mother’s Day.
This year the club will again take part in Pink Sports Day, formerly known as Pink Footy and Netball Day, a Breast Cancer Network Australia initiative to help raise awareness and funds for those affected by breast cancer.
Event organiser Kylie Buckingham said around 100 ladies associated with the club attend the annual event.
“We all wear pink, we celebrate the day in pink and it’s a day dedicated to us ladies really,” Ms Buckingham said.
The event usually coincides with the Mother’s Day weekend and junior and senior players also join in by wearing pink shoe laces.
In the past, even the lines on the footy oval were marked in pink.
Ms Buckingham said one year they raised enough money to sponsor their two under 18s teams run-out jackets which have the clubs Warrior emblem in a distinctive pink colour.
“That was a really great year that we had, it was really lovely to be able to do that and we see that all the time now,” Ms Buckingham said.
Each year the club donates to a different charity, always one linked with supporting women.
As part of raising awareness for breast cancer all ladies who attend the luncheon will receive a gift bag which includes information on how to check for signs of breast cancer.
The day will also include a goal kicking competition, where the ladies swap their heels for something more comfortable, and raffles and prizes for best dressed.
