ALL residents and community groups are invited to enjoy lunch twice a month at the Iramoo Community Centre.
Volunteers cook and serve two courses of wholesome food in return for a donation of about $5.
Community Development Officer Lisa Field said those who attend the lunch can donate as little or as much as they like for the lunch.
“It’s whatever people can afford,” Ms Field said.
The donation is used to for the community centre and helps run programs such as the monthly luncheons and helps pay for kitchen equipment.
The centre’s kitchen was recently renovated creating more space for more guests.
“We want lots of different individuals and community groups to come along,” Ms Field said.
“The kitchen being expanded also increases our capacity to run the other cooking programs and to run them in more of a professional way.”
The newly renovated kitchen also accommodates for wheelchair participants who now can also actively participate in the cooking classes.
There are a variety of cooking classes and programs available to suit all residents including the men’s cooking program, community kitchen program, cake decorating and kids cooking classes during the school holidays.
Ms Field encourages all residents to come along and enjoy the lunch.
“It’s homely and it’s welcoming,” Ms Field said.
“It’s more about meeting people and having some food, it’s very social.”
“These foods that we prepare are really bulked up with lots of vegetables so we are definitely meeting your nutritional needs for the day.”
Other dates for 2013 are 22 May, 26 June, 24 July, 28 August, 25 September, 23 October and a festive meal on 27 November. For more information and bookings call 8742 3688.
