WYNDHAM residents are being encouraged to put down their usual evening tinny and give some new and “challenging” beers a try.
The Park Hotel in Werribee will be hosting a five-day long event as part of Good Beer Week next month.
From Wednesday 22 May to Sunday 26 May the venue will hold five course degustation dinners designed to match different award winning beers.
Isaac Zietek, the Park Hotel’s resident beer expert, said the venue now had over 400 different types of craft beers, more than double the amount they had when they opened several months ago.
“We’re putting a lot more challenging beers on tap and people are really responding well to them,” Mr Zietek said.
“We’re starting to get recognised around Melbourne as a really good craft beer venue and people are travelling from the city and even the eastern suburbs to check us out.”
While it was always going to be a challenge to open a venue that only sells craft beer in Werribee, co-owner Nick Christou said the Park Hotel had become consistently more popular and was booked out most weekends.
Last week they received approval from Wyndham Council to have the loading zone out the front of the business rezoned as a taxi rank after 5.30 every evening.
“We’ve done that primarily for the safety aspect,” Mr Christou said.
