Residents can start planning their future finances with help from a series of free information seminars in Hoppers Crossing this month.
The series of seminars will include information on understanding age pension and your choices, superannuation, retirement income streams and running your own super fund.
Financial Information Services Officer Philip Joyce said planning for the future does not need to be complicated.
“It can be as simple as adopting new ideas that lead to new habits, which can last a lifetime,” Mr Joyce said.
“One of our key roles is to help show people ways to maximise overall income in retirement, so many of our seminars focus on superannuation.”
Mr Joyce said many people already have a wealth of information but do not put it into action.
“There are also people who come to see us when they’re approaching retirement and have realised they have underestimated their needs or the cost of the lifestyle they want in retirement.”
“The amount that you accumulate in superannuation during your working life may well determine the standard of living you enjoy in retirement,” he added.
Mr Joyce said people will face different financial challenges depending on what stage of their life they are at.
“Those nearing retirement want to understand financial products and concepts, including explaining the level of risks for each financial product type.”
“It is really important to have a plan for your financial future, and it should not rely upon winning lotto!” he said.
