WYNDHAM continues to be a haven for hoon behaviour with police nabbing an extraordinary amount of reckless drivers in the last few days of October.
In just four days from 18 to 21 October police impounded six cars for 30 days for behaviour that has been described as “almost lawless”.
In one of the most remarkable
incidents, a 30-year-old Tarneit man stun-
ned police as he performed burnouts around the roundabout of Derri-
mut and Sayers roads in Tarneit, just metres away from the Wyndham North Police Station.
Even more amazing is the fact that a booze bus was set up only 20 metres away and stunned police witnessed the entire crime. He will face court on charges of driving in a dangerous manner, careless driving, improper use of a motor vehicle, and two counts of disobeying traffic lights.
Just a day later a Werribee man was caught speeding along Dunnings Rd in Point Cook at 104 kilometres in a 60 km zone while delivering a pizza.
He will be charged with speeding and unlicensed driving and will face court at a later date.
On 22 October an 18-year-old Werribee man was caught by the Brimbank Highway Patrol with two sets of different stolen number plates on his unregistered car.
Senior Constable Nathan Ractliffe from the Wyndham Highway Patrol said that drivers need to understand that they are endangering innocent people’s lives.
“There is one word for that kind of behaviour, ridiculous,” Sen Const Ractliffe said.
“It’s a total disregard for the road rules and it’s almost lawless.”
Sen Const Ractliffe said some drivers would not learn the real dangers of their behaviour until it was too late.
“It gets to a certain point where they’re doing it at every corner and they just don’t think that we will catch them,” he said.
“What happens if they lose control and kill a family that is just walking down the street? Then they won’t be so flippant about it.”
Anyone who witnesses hoon driving can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
