A team of young riders from the Truganina Pony Club have successfully qualified to represent the club at State level competition.
Team Manager Casey O’Grady said the riders were looking forward to competing against other pony clubs from across the state.
“They are very nervous but they are also very excited,” Ms O’Grady said.
“The team is comprised of one senior rider and three juniors, so we are definitely going in as the underdogs.”
The team of riders include Tamara Currah, 19, from Laverton, Aimee Spooner, 15, from Tarneit and youngsters Tamara Letts from Wyndham Vale and Rebecca Price-Carey, both 12.
“I think it’s going to be a huge challenge for them which will encourage them to keep riding and competing for next year,” Ms O’Grady said.
The team has only been riding together since the beginning of the year.
“These riders have not been riding together for very long so it is quite an achievement to be riding at State level,” she said.
Ms O’Grady said the girls have been encouraging each other and practising as a team and in their own time as part of their preparation.
“Win or lose, we’re just happy to be there,” she said.
The competition will be held on 15 June at the Bacchus Marsh Pony Club grounds.
