MORE than 100 new white collar jobs will be coming to Wyndham with an energy company announcing that they will be establishing a new call centre in the heart of Werribee.
Origin Energy confirmed last week that they would be recruiting up to 105 new employees at a call centre to be operated out of the Aegis contact operations centre in Synnot St in Werribee.
The majority of the jobs created will be for inbound sales and service roles and an advertisement for the positions claims that the expected starting date for successful applicants is Monday 15 July.
Up to 15 of the jobs will be leadership roles.
General Manager Retail Markets at Origin, Jim Galvin, said the company was excited to offer the employment injection into the Wyndham area.
“We’re pleased to extend our existing partnership with Aegis and support them in locating this function in Werribee. Aegis has a solid understanding of the Origin business and more importantly has a strong focus on first class customer experiences,” Mr Galvin said.
“Our relationship with Aegis provides us with the flexibility to adjust our staffing levels to match variable market demands over time.”Wyndham Mayor Heather Marcus said she was excited by the announcement when informed of it by Star.
“I think this is wonderful news and this is exactly what we’re looking forward to in Wyndham,” Cr Marcus said.
“Hopefully these jobs will be made available to locals.”
Ms Marcus said she understood that some residents and business owners would be worried about the impact the new call centre would have on parking in the Werribee CBD.
“We know how critical car parking is in Werribee but I don’t think we can start knocking back these kinds of businesses because the economic flow-on that these jobs will create is very important,” she said.
“Parking is a concern for everyone, and the council has put aside $100,000 in the budget for a feasibility study for a new car park in Werribee.
“Jobs is the main priority and we do not want these organisations going to other areas.”
