Greiser boosts Metro campaign

WESTERN Jet and former Keilor junior Jake Greiser has again improved his draft stocks after putting on another good performance for Vic Metro at the AFL Under-18 Championships last week.
Greiser, a tough inside midfielder, has enjoyed a good Vic Metro campaign to date and was named among the best players on the ground against South Australia at Geelong’s Simonds Stadium.
In a low-scoring affair that also featured Greiser’s Western Jets and Keilor team-mate James Sicily, South Australia hung on for a three-point win despite conceding three goals to one in the final quarter. South Australia led at every change but never established a match-winning lead, and almost let the game slip in the final few minutes.
The final round of the championships will take place at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, with Vic Metro due to face arch rival Vic Country. Both Greiser and Sicily are good chances to play.

ALTONA remains five points outside the top four in Men’s Premier League hockey after scrounging out a 3-3 draw on the road against Essendon on Saturday.
Going into the clash just one point behind Essendon, all three points would have come in handy for either side on the day, but in the end they couldn’t be split.
Chris Coleman again got among the goals for Altona on Saturday while Nil Garcia and Josh Horton each chipped in with a goal of their own.
Lewis Citroen, Shaun Davis and Bas Van Valburg were the scorers for Essendon.
Meanwhile earlier in the day Altona’s women suffered their worst loss of the season and remain second-last with just one win for the year after going down 9-0, also to Essendon.
Essendon’s Anna Burns was responsible for most of the damage inflicted onto Altona with four goals for the day.
In two weeks Altona will again hit the road, this time to face Hawthorn.

WERRIBEE has now lost five Big V Men’s State Championship games in a row and is now in free-fall after suffering a comprehensive 47-point loss to the Eltham Wildcats on Saturday night.
The Wildcats were relentless from start to finish, winning each of the four quarters with ease in what loomed a vital mid-table clash.
By quarter time the Devils were already down by 13 points and things didn’t get much better afterward, with the margin blown out to 25 by the main break.
Werribee was no chance of pulling off the massive comeback needed to win in the second half as Eltham continued to inflict its damage, and by game’s end the final score was a whopping 109-62.
Three Wildcats scored at least 25 points on the night while Werribee’s top scorer was Jordan Hughes with just 17. Te Puao Silver was next best with 16.

AN offensive final quarter onslaught was enough to ensure victory for Werribee’s women’s Division Two Big V basketball team on Saturday night.
The Devils led at every change and won all but the third quarter of the game on their way to a 20-point win over the Chelsea Gulls.
They led by six at quarter time before a dominant second term that yielded 22 points stretched Werribee’s buffer to 13 by the main break.
After adding two points less than Chelsea in the third quarter Werribee again raised its offensive game to score 27 points in the final term to end up 78-58 winners.
Lisa Troyahn was at her usual best with a huge contribution of 29 points and eight rebounds on the night, while Emma Coyne was again handy with 14 points of her own.
This week Werribee will travel to Coburg to take on the Giants.
