Tigers' vision in reach

WERRIBEE Cricket Club could be on the move to a new facility.
Tigers’ president Ivo Havard said a possible redevelopment at Chirnside Park could see the ground predominantly used as an Australia Rules Football venue.
While there is still a lot of water to go under the bridge, Mr Havard said the prospect of a new home is an exciting one.
“We are calling it a one in a hundred year opportunity to relocate,” he said.
“It is old Werribee being transformed into new Werribee.
“The redevelopment of Chirnside Park has gone through a few gates now and there is every likelihood it will become football only summer events venue,” Mr Havard said,
“The main one for us is the East Werribee Employment Precinct. We are in discussions with Wyndham City at the moment and it is exciting.”
The potential move continues what has been an exciting time for the Tigers after making the 2012/13 Victorian Sub District Cricket Association grand-final.
With the club in a healthy position both on and off the field, Mr Havard said a move toward Premier Cricket may be a possibility in the future.
“The main thing for us will be to get the new home in order first,” he said.
“We are on a bit of a juggle because there are expressions of interest out now for Premier Cricket.
“Premier Cricket will be considered as an option for the club going forward. We aren’t setting a time frame.
“There is going to be a Premier Cricket side come out of the city of Wyndham eventually. We would like to think that we are front runners for that. The timing will be the thing for us.”
The good news doesn’t stop there for Werribee with the club also adding a major sponsor in Werribee Hyundai and Werribee Jeep Chrysler and Dodge.
Mr Havard said the support of community businesses was paramount to local sport.
“We are rapt to have them on board and look forward to a long association with them,” he said.
“We don’t have income streams. We don’t have poker machines so we rely on local community and businesses to support the club.
“We think we have a really good period ahead of us with this playing group and the younger guys coming through are a great group. We are in for a long period of sustained success.”
