A Werribee resident will cycle 200km across Victoria this October in an effort to help raise funds and awareness for cancer.
Ron Wenzler is dedicating a lot of his time preparing for the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
The ride will span over two days and all money raised will fund life-saving cancer research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, the only hospital in Australia solely dedicated to cancer.
Mr Wenzler said the cause was close to his heart, with two of his loved ones currently going through chemotherapy.
“We are all touched by cancer,” he said.
As well as preparing for the big ride, Mr Wenzler is also busy organising fundraisers and selling raffles tickets to help raise money for the cause.
“I’m dedicating my time to raise as much money as I can,” Mr Wenzler said.
Mr Wenzler has already organised a concert, where several bands performed for a crowd of almost 300.
From that event he raised $2500 for the Peter Mac Foundation.
He is now organising a trivia night, an event open for the public, where he hopes to have about 160 people present for a night full of fun and games.
And although most people may think the ride is the challenge, Mr Wenzler said the big challenge for him is organising the fundraising.
“The ride will be fun, the big challenge is the fundraising, that’s been the part where I’ve had to be creative,” he said.
“The ride is like the reward at the end.”
