WYNDHAM’S children were introduced to the joy of reading last week when a library appeared out of nowhere for a brief period.
To celebrate Children’s Book Week, which was held from 17 to 23 August, Wyndham Council partnered with Werribee Plaza to provide a pop-up library in the shopping centre.
Wyndham mayor Heather Marcus said the popularity of the event showed how important reading still was to children.
“Libraries aren’t just in buildings any more – they are online and on your doorstep,” Cr Marcus said.
“Wyndham libraries have e-books, free internet access, online databases where you can search for articles for your school project, plus our whole service is available online. Reserve a book at the library and get reminders via text or email.”
Young writers will also be awarded and applauded for their imagination and creation at the Werribee Plaza Library on Thursday 29 August.
The Imagination Creation Awards night will showcase the winners of a short story and poetry competition for young people up to the age of 18 which accepts entries from across Australia and internationally.
There are three age categories and prizes are awarded in each category for the best poem and short story.
