A WERRIBEE man is lucky to be alive after being pulled unconscious from a house fire last Friday evening.
Firefighters dragged the 20-year-old from the burning house about 7.45pm, and performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived.
He was taken to The Alfred hospital where he remained in a critical but stable condition overnight.
It is believed a heater sparked the fire.
Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson said Victoria Police were investigating the fire.
“Emergency services were called to the Blackwood Court premises just before 8am to find the brick residence ablaze,” Leading Sen Const Jackson said.
“Three of the four occupants, aged in their twenties, managed to flee uninjured however a 20-year-old man was pulled from the house.
“At this stage the cause of the fire is not known, however Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives are not treating it as suspicious.”
It took firefighters around 20 minutes to get the blaze under control.
