SAFETY upgrades at one of Wyndham’s most dangerous intersections could finally be starting soon, with the State Government announcing a contract to upgrade the Old Geelong Rd and Forsyth Rd intersection in Hoppers Crossing.
Member for the Western Metropolitan Region, Andrew Elsbury, announced last week that Patten Pavement Services had been awarded the $860,000 contract.
“With the intersection’s history of crashes, the signalisation of the intersection will reduce the likelihood of crashes and make driving safer for through traffic and turning vehicles,” Mr Elsbury said.
“When complete, drivers will notice safety improvements including the installation of highly visible traffic signals and new street lighting making the intersection safer, particularly at night.”
In the five years through to 30 June 2013, there were six casualty crashes at the intersection, two of which resulted in serious injuries and four in other injuries.
Works will start later this year and be complete in 2014, with other safety improvements at this location including road widening and resurfacing, line-marking, installation of a wire rope safety barrier and a new slip lane.
