Please explain

Could Council please explain:
nWhy have my rates gone up by $501.92 but my property value has gone down by $12,000? Is this to be used to fund an inappropriate dam at Byrill Creek?
nWhy can’t Council save money and promote energy efficiency by retrofitting infrastructure and housing so that tradies don’t have to leave the Tweed to look for work? (I recently contacted three carpenters to quote on a job – one had gone to WA, another to Gladstone and the other to Cairns to get work.)
nWhy didn’t Council choose a less impactive location for a sportsfield rather than dumping it in the middle of a wildlife corridor at Black Rocks Pottsville?
nWhy didn’t Council support a Koala Beach style development at Kings Forest, which would protect the endangered koala population?
These are examples of economic and environmental irresponsibility by a short-sighted Council which has little regard for the unique biodiversity of this Shire or the people living in it. I urge your readers to become informed of the intentions of the 59 candidates in the coming Council election so that their vote will ensure that the elected Councillors will protect our jobs, lifestyle and environment.
Let’s hope that the only current Greens councillor Katie Milne does not have to continue to cop abuse and beat the odds at every turn to achieve better outcomes for Tweed Shire residents.
With six candidates on the Greens ticket, this election provides us with the opportunity for stronger Greens representation on Council. Maybe then the best interests of the community will be served.
