THE Werribee Blood Donor Centre is celebrating an extra day of giving which will save the lives of more people.
The centre, which will celebrate its fourth birthday next month, will now be open every Friday from 8am to 3pm due to the popular demand of blood donors.
Blood Service spokesperson Erin Lagoudakis said the extended opening hours would provide donors with even more opportunity to donate.
“By opening Friday’s the Werribee Blood Donor Centre can collect the generous donations from nearly 50 additional donors to save lives each week,” Ms Lagoudakis said.
The centre has also been newly refurbished to add to a better experience for donors.
Ms Lagoudakis said she hoped the extended operating hours and the refresh of the centre would invite the community to visit and donate.
“The donor centre is proud of its friendly community atmosphere and is inviting locals who don’t currently donate, or haven’t for some time, to come and check out the new look centre and meet the team,” she said.
The donor centre has more than 200 appointments that need to be filled over the next four weeks, including about 10 appointments available each Friday.
“The donor centre needs to collect around 10,000 donations each year, and with every blood donation saving up to three lives that’s enough blood to help up to 30,000 patients in need,” Ms Lagoudakis said.
“So there’s never been a better time to roll up your sleeves and give the gift of life.”
The Werribee Blood Donor Centre is located at 7 Bridge Street, Werribee and is open every day except Saturday.
Group donations are also welcome.
